Household income determines whether a family is eligible for reduced price or free meals.  The school lunch program must meet nutrition requirements established by the federal government.

(WIC) SPECIAL SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM FOR WOMEN, INFANTS and CHILDREN

The WIC Program has an income eligibility limit (185% of the official poverty level) but is not connected to welfare programs.  It is a Public Health Dept. program which provides health screening, nutrition education and vouchers for specific foods and infant formulas for pregnant and nursing women, infants, and children under age 5.

Program reimburses providers for meals served to day care children at licensed and certified day care facilities.  WECA also reimburses pre-schools.

A cooperative, surplus food buying project.  There are no restrictions or income eligibility.  Participants receive $25 to $35 worth of food in exchange for two hours of community service of their choosing and $15.50.  Food stamps may be accepted as payment.  Must call to reserve a package.

Sponsored by five churches in River Falls: United Methodist, Ezekiel Lutheran, St. Bridget's, First Congregational and Luther Memorial.  Volunteers serve a free meal from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at St. Bridgets Catholic Church at 211 East Division Street in River Falls.

SENIOR MEAL SITES AND HOME DELIVERED MEALS

Mid-day meals offered daily to senior citizens at seven sites in Pierce County.  Meals can be delivered in each area to persons who are temporarily or permanently homebound.
