Subject: Some recent updates to the Understanding Dairy Markets Website (http://future.aae.wisc.edu) June 12, 2008

1.   With the help of Ed Jesse, Bruce Jones, Bob Cropp, Paul Mitchell and other university faculty we have added an "08 Farm Bill" section with lots of material and summaries of various aspects of this legislation (http/future.aae.wisc.edu/farm_bill.html).  I think an email was sent out on this last week.

2.   We have added the ERS state-specific Total Feed Cost estimates of Dairy Production to our database
(http://future.aae.wisc.edu/data/monthly_values/by_area/2504?tab=costs).
We have also added a gross revenue over feed cost measure which is calculated as the All-Milk price  - the above feed costs
(http://future.aae.wisc.edu/data/monthly_values/by_area/2506?tab=costs)
These data are available for each of the 23 major milk producing states.

3.   We have added a Livestock Gross Margin - Dairy (LGM-Dairy) section of the website (http://future.aae.wisc.edu/lgm_dairy.html) that contains the particulars of the LGM-Dairy program and which will house the results of an externally funded research project I have in this area.  This section will be steadily growing over the next 6 months.

4.   Although we are still attempting to obtain historical data we have started collecting CBOT grain futures data to match the futures and options data we collect for the dairy complex
(http://future.aae.wisc.edu/data/futures) .
