Fair Premium Checks Q&A – Fall 2016

  1. When do we get our checks?
    • Premium checks will be handed out at the schools this year. Please see the 4-H Newsletter for the schedule. ANYONE can come to the River Falls Public Library to pick up their checks if the time/school doesn’t work for the family schedule (or if the parent/member are uncomfortable picking up the check at the school).
    • The school will make an announcement for all kids who exhibited in 4-H to come to a designated area during that time to pick up their checks.
    • The kids will be getting their checks – signing them right there, and get cash immediately. The cash will be placed in another envelope and given to the child. Each school is handling their own “safe” issue with the money separately.
  2. Why did this change from last year?
    • This decision came from the county (not the fair or 4-H office) finance department. With outstanding/uncashed premium checks, the amount gets deducted from the Fair’s budget (loss of state aid), which can impact programming. Additionally, the bank wants to charge $33 for every check (approx. 200) that needs to be voided, which would severely impact the Fair budget.
    • If any parent is uncomfortable with their child handling the money at the school, they can come to the River Falls Library times or they can come to the County Treasurer’s Office to pick up the check.
  3. Can one of my kids pick up the checks for all the kids in my family and bring home to cash?
    1. No checks will be sent home with kids. Parents should come to the Treasurer’s Office, River Falls Library, or the School and get all the checks cashed at once. Parents may have to provide ID to verify who they are if Ann doesn’t recognize them. No kids have to be present if parents come for checks. Kids need no ID to pick up their check, but if there is a question, they may be asked to verify their club or address.
  4. Can I pick up the check(s) for my kid(s) if they are not present?
    • Parents should come to the Treasurer’s Office, River Falls Library, or the School and get all the checks cashed at once. Parents may have to provide ID to verify who they are if they aren’t recognized. No kids have to be present if parents come for checks.
  5. Do I or my kids need ID to pick up the checks?
    • Parents may have to provide ID to verify who they are if they aren’t recognized. Kids need no ID to pick up their check, but if there is a question, they may be asked to verify their club or address.
  6. My kid is in college – what do they do?
    • Parent will need to come pick up the check, either at the school district, River Falls Library, or Treasurers Office. No checks will be mailed.
  7. My family is home schooled, what do we do?
    • The parent can pick up the check(s) at the school, River Falls Library, or the Treasurer’s Office.
  8. I can’t make it to any of the times listed, what do I do?
    • You can show up to the River Falls Library dates/times or stop in the Treasurer’s Office during 8am-5pm, October 15 – December 30, 2016 to receive and cash your premium checks. NO checks will be mailed
